Qatar amends regulations for residential projects

Qatar’s new regulations for residential projects introduce 20 amendments.

Qatar has issued a landmark update to planning and architectural rules for residential villas and palaces, introducing more than 20 amendments to Ministerial Decision No. 7 of 1989, the Minister of Municipality, Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, said.

The revisions follow a review of citizens’ housing needs and construction challenges and are designed to make home development and expansion easier, optimise the use of residential plots, and better meet the changing needs of Qatari families.

Al Attiyah described the package as one of the most comprehensive reviews of villa and palace requirements in recent years. For larger residences, the new guidelines permit expanded entrance volumes, double-height glazing, feature façades, statement door systems, and bespoke architectural details that boost functionality and aesthetic value.

Complementary architectural systems, including high-performance glazing, acoustic partitioning, and custom aluminium entrance doors, will support contemporary designs by maximising daylight, strengthening indoor‑outdoor connections, improving acoustic comfort, and enabling more personalised living environments.
