Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced progress on 20 new projects with a total estimated value of QR11.5 billion ($3.16 billion).
While 12 of these projects have been awarded, eight projects are set to be tendered soon, said a Qatar News Agency report.
The projects are being implemented as part of Ashghal’s plan to complete infrastructure, buildings, drainage and public facilities in line with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Ashghal said 12 new projects valued at more than QR4.5 billion have been awarded. These include six building projects, most notably the development of Hamad General Hospital, the refurbishment of the Racing and Equestrian Club, in addition to the fourth phase of the Al Uqda Equestrian Complex development.
In the roads and residential infrastructure sector, four projects were awarded, including for development of roads and infrastructure in Izghawa and Al Thumid (Packages One and Two). The projects also include beautification works and the construction of air-conditioned pathways within Qatar University campus.
Ashghal said eight additional projects, with an estimated combined value of QR7 billion, are set to be tendered in the upcoming phase. These include strategic projects, most notably the design and construction of the Southern Strategic Tunnel for surface and groundwater drainage, as well as the Western Strategic Tunnel for the same purpose in the southern area, as part of efforts to enhance stormwater drainage systems.
Upcoming tenders will cover road and infrastructure development projects serving citizens’ land plots in various areas in the north and south of the country.
